His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday discussed regional challenges with a delegation from the Arab and International Relations Council (AIRC) headed by its Chairman Mohammad Saqer.

During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah stressed the importance of activating joint Arab action and unifying Arabs at the present crucial stage when the nation is facing formidable challenges ensuing from the current political upheavals.

The King said that regional issues, mainly the Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis and the situations in Iraq and Libya, in addition to the drive to counter terrorism and extremism are significant aspects to be focused on during the Arab summit, to be held in Jordan at the end of this month.

His Majesty highlighted the importance of ending the stalemate in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and reviving negotiations that should lead to a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict, based on the two-state formula.

The King voiced his appreciation of AIRC’s role in defending Arab causes at international platforms.

For their part, Saqer and the delegates commended the efforts of His Majesty to boost pan-Arab action, support the nation’s issues and bring about peace and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting was attended by Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh and King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan.

Meanwhile, the Arab and International Relations Council delegation included Dr Iyad Allawi, Fouad Siniora, Taher Masri and Amr Moussa.

In remarks to the press, Saqer highlighted the importance of the Arab Summit, especially since it will be held in light of tough Arab challenges.

Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah, would be able to bring Arabs together to come up with solutions to push forward their joint action and unify their stances on issues of common interest, Saqer said, noting that His Majesty is the most capable leader to play this role.
