His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received the CEO of The HALO Trust, Maj. Gen. James Cowan, at Al Husseiniya Palace.

The meeting, attended by Chairman of the National Committee for Demining and Rehabilitation His Highness Prince Mired bin Ra'ad, touched on Jordan’s experience in clearing all its identified minefields, becoming the first country in the Middle East to do so in 2012.

Discussions also covered the humanitarian role of The HALO Trust, one of the world’s largest humanitarian mine clearance organisation that operates in many countries.

Cowan praised the Kingdom’s role in demining and expressed appreciation for its support for The HALO Trust.

Jordan, in 1998, was among the first signatories to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction.
