His Majesty King Abdullah II said his current visit to Germany aims in the first place at strengthening economic and social relations between the two countries to rise up to the level of the close political ties existing between them for decades.

Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania started a three-day state visit to Germany on Monday upon an invitation from German President Johannes Rau. During the visit King Abdullah II and the accompanying delegation will hold talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and other senior officials on ways of promoting bilateral ties in political, economic and cultural spheres. The talks will also cover the current situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian and Iraqi issues.

In an interview with AFP conducted by Director of the AFP Office in Amman Randa Habib, on the eve of a visit to Jordan by French President Jacques Chirac, the King stressed that France could play a key role for a settlement to the Middle East and Iraqi crises.
