King holds talks with UK PM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with British Prime Minister Theresa May and discussed the latest regional and international developments, as well as ways to enhance strategic bilateral relations.

Discussions covered means to enhance bilateral relations in all fields, especially military cooperation.

King Abdullah thanked the UK for supporting Jordan in various fields, noting its assistance in alleviating the burden of hosting refugees. 

Talks also addressed the latest regional developments, especially peace efforts and the Syrian crisis.

Moreover, discussions covered the anti-terrorism drive, with the two sides calling for stepping up regional and international efforts within a holistic strategy to counter the threat of terror, which jeopardises global peace and security.

His Majesty had also offered his condolences to May over the death of the innocent victims of the terror attack that recently took place near the British parliament in London, expressing his condemnation of the cowardly act.

For her part, May said the UK highly values Jordan’s pivotal role, led by the King, in seeking peace and stability in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, and King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan had received May upon her arrival.

The King, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, and the British prime minister also visited the Quick Reaction Force Command, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein and Freihat.

His Majesty and the May were briefed by the force’s commander on the duties and training programmes implemented by the unit within the joint Jordanian-British training programme.

The King and the British premier were shown the various weapons and equipment used by the force to ensure its quick response, adaptability, and ability to undertake its duties at all times.
