His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday voiced pride in Jordan's ability to achieve substantial progress in expanding renewable energy production and diversifying energy resources.

Chairing a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace to follow up on the government's plans to enhance the energy sector, King Abdullah stressed the importance of enhancing transparency, and clarifying the mechanism of granting renewable energy project licences.

His Majesty called for building the capacities of Jordanian cadres and equipping them with the necessary skills in this vital sector.

The King stressed the importance of preparing a long-term strategy until 2030 to define objectives based on what has been achieved in the energy sector, calling also for implementing the 2018-2022 Jordan Economic Growth Plan and keeping up with technological advancements in the field.

Developing laws regulating the energy sector and ensuring legislative stability are required to make this field more attractive for investors, mainly in renewable energy projects, His Majesty added.

The King called for developing the power grid in the eastern region through a project similar to the Green Corridor Project in the southern region, pointing to the possibility of exporting electricity to Iraq and Syria in the future.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki said Jordan has achieved major progress in the energy field, noting that the government will continue working to develop this vital sector.

Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif highlighted the ministry's plans to implement projects listed in the Jordan Economic Growth Plan, within set timeframes.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
