His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday commended the efforts of Himmetna campaign volunteer team, who worked on the rehabilitation project of the Oncology Department at Al Bashir Hospital to enhance the quality of services provided to patients.

During a meeting at Basman Palace with Himmetna Executive Director Fadia Samara and volunteer team members, King Abdullah praised the campaign as a successful model of volunteerism, and urged replicating this model through other socially responsible initiatives to serve the public.

According to Himmetna Executive Director Samara, the campaign was launched in August 2018 after an evaluation of the needs of Al Bashir Hospital’s Oncology Department to upgrade the quality of healthcare services.

Samara said the Himmetna team, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and in cooperation with specialised companies, commenced work by preparing the necessary feasibility studies.

Revamp work at the Oncology Department, with a 40-bed capacity, started in February 2019, she added, noting that it included infrastructural enhancements and upgrades to the medical equipment and furniture to comply with international standards.

The project, which cost around JD1.5 million, was funded entirely through monetary and in-kind donations from institutions, companies, and individuals, with support from engineering and architecture firms.

Highlighting the project as a constructive partnership between the government, the private sector, and civil society organisations, Samara expressed gratitude to the volunteers, donors and supporters of Himmetna campaign.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Adviser to His Majesty for Communication and Coordination Bisher Khasawneh, and Adviser to His Majesty for Policies and Media Kemal Al Nasser attended the meeting.
