King urges House to bolster oversight role

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday urged the House of Representatives to bolster its oversight role and address negligence in some institutions, stressing the importance of moving forward with administrative reform.
 
During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with the speaker of the House and heads of a number of its committees, King Abdullah stressed the important role of specialised committees in enhancing the House’s performance and its oversight role.
 
Turning to political development, His Majesty urged further cooperation between the House and the government, noting the importance of moving forward with the revision of the elections, political parties, and local administration laws.
 
Speaking at the meeting, House Speaker Abdul Monem Odat said the Chamber exercises its oversight role by pointing out shortcomings in public administration, so that the minister in question understands he or she is accountable, noting ongoing cooperation between the House and government.
 
Attendees expressed appreciation of His Majesty’s ongoing outreach to the House of Representatives, stressing their commitment to advancing the work of committees and to revisit political laws, as well as their readiness to enhance the House’s oversight role and provide suggestions to the government.
 
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Adviser to His Majesty for Policies Haifa Khraisha attended the meeting.
