His Majesty King Abdullah II urged Europe in remarks before the European Parliament on Wednesday, to contribute in solving the Middle East conflict.

His Majesty said that neither Israelis nor Palestinians are capable of taking the steps needed to reach a reasonable final compromise, adding that we must not allow the process to become hostage to the whims of those who choose to obstruct peace. "Time has come for genuine peace, a peace that resonates with both Palestinians and Israelis. Now more than ever, people need to see results: real security, viable independence, and a future of hope," the King added.

President of the European Parliament Pat Cox earlier delivered a speech before the parliament in which he welcomed their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Al Abdullah. He affirmed that the visit of His Majesty reflects the beginning of a new era of Jordanian-European ties which were started by His Majesty the late King Hussein and were enhanced since the signing of the Jordan-Euro Association Agreement in 1998.

Cox praised accomplishments of King Abdullah II since his accession to the throne through the economic, social and legislative reforms in addition to the empowerment of women in society. "The EU and the European parliament will assist Jordan to enable it to continue its reform programs in the field of political pluralism, civil society institutions, the prevalence of law and human rights," he added.

Regarding the Middle East cause, Cox stressed the European Parliament's belief that the only way to achieve peace will be through dialogue and not violence and force, noting efforts that are being exerted by His Majesty to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region.
