King Affirms the Necessity of Completing the Measures of Unifying Customs in Aqaba

His Majesty King Abdullah II visited on Sunday Customs of Aqaba Special Economic Zone and Aqaba port. During the visit, The King affirmed the necessity of ending unifying customs measures in Aqaba by the end of the current year to ease pressure and to facilitate clearance measures and commodities flow in the port.
During the meeting which was attended by Minister of the Royal Court Faisal Fayez, the President of the Authority of Aqaba Special Economic Zone, The Head of Economic Department at the Royal Court, Head of Customs Department and the Commissioner for Customs Affairs, The King instructed to draw up a five- year strategic plan with a view to developing Aqaba port.
The King also instructed to speed up the measures of computerizing the port affairs, to complete the first phase before the end of the current year and to complete all measures of computerization by the next year.
The King was briefed, during presiding the meeting, by commissioner for customs and revenues affairs Ahmad Rifai on the accomplishments of the customs department of Aqaba for the current year concerning preparing and implementing new legislative system, computerizing all measures of customs and taxes of income and sales.
Rifai also illustrated that the value of the outgoing goods during the first half of the current year stood at JD 53 million while it was JD 41million during the first half of the past year.
