His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday departed on a working visit to the Netherlands, to participate in an international meeting held as part of the Aqaba Meetings series to enhance global coordination and efforts in countering terrorism and violent extremism.

The meeting, co-chaired by Jordan and the Netherlands, will focus on Europe and include security and political officials from several European countries, as well as representatives and officials from the United Nations, the European Union, NATO, the United States, Canada, Australia and other international partners.

The Netherlands is the second country to host the Aqaba Meetings, after it was held in Albania in June.

The Aqaba Meetings are a series of international meetings launched by King Abdullah in 2015 to bolster security and military cooperation, coordination and exchange of expertise among regional and international partners to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.

Over the past years, the Aqaba Meetings featured similar region-focused discussions with heads and representatives of a number of states in East and West Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Balkans, as well as senior officials from around the world.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II was sworn in as Regent in the presence of Cabinet members.
