His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday inaugurated the new building of Al Arab Mosque in Zarqa City, which can accommodate 4,500 worshippers.

A landmark in the city, the mosque was originally constructed in 1920.

King Abdullah toured the various facilities at the mosque, which is powered through solar energy. The mosque includes a cultural centre and a prayer area for the deaf, equipped with sign language interpretation services for the Friday sermon.

His Majesty issued directives to equip the mosque’s cultural centre with the required equipment and computers.

The four-storey mosque, built over an area of 4,500 square metres, includes a healthcare centre that provides general medicine, gynaecology, and dental clinics, as well as accessible facilities.

The new building cost around JD3 million, collected by the mosque’s renovation committee in donations.
