King meets Egypt president in Baghdad

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Baghdad, on the sidelines of the fourth trilateral summit between Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq.
 
Discussions covered the need to maintain coordination and consultation on issues of mutual concern, in service of shared interests and Arab causes.
 
The meeting also tackled means of bolstering cooperation in various fields, especially efforts to counter the humanitarian and economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Discussions addressed the latest regional developments, including the importance of translating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip into an extended truce that pushes towards a political solution that fulfils the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, as well as the need to stop all illegal Israeli violations and measures in Jerusalem.
 
His Majesty reiterated the need to reach just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
 
Moreover, the meeting covered regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.
 
Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and a number of Egyptian officials attended the meeting.
