King Meets Members of the North Virginia Technology Council

His Majesty King Abdullah II met on Monday with member of the US Congress Tom Davis as well as president and members of the North Virginia Technology Council and discussed with them increasing prospects of investment in Jordan and establishing Jordanian and US companies in both countries.
The council has more than 1300 member companies active in the fields of industrial technology including information, telecommunications, software and vital techniques.
His Majesty gave and account of the changes that Jordan's economy has witnesses in four years, especially with regard to investment in human resources, with a view to rehabilitate them and enable them to compete in light of the requirements of the market economy.
"This investment is achieved through improving and developing school curricula as well as developing vocational training that suits the market needs," he said.
King Abdullah noted that Jordan will invest until the end of 2005 about $500 million to develop education. "This amount is important for a small country like Jordan," he added, noting that a number of countries in the region expressed their willingness to benefit from Jordan experience in the fields of education and information and telecommunication technology.
His Majesty affirmed that Jordan has made big strides over the past three years, noting to the increasing use of information technology and Internet in the Kingdom. "The establishment of 75 centers of IT to develop local communities in remote areas, as it is the case in the capital, contributed to spreading knowledge and bridging the digital gap among the various regions in the country," the King added.
His Majesty spoke of the political development in Jordan, indicating that the parliament will have a major role in developing political life and enhancing democracy in the country. He also reviewed the issue of judicial reform and the establishment of a national center for human rights.
The King also discussed the accomplishments that Jordan has achieved on the level of macro economy, noting that the national economy maintained a relatively high growth rate that stood at 2.9 percent in the first half of this year. "Jordan also maintained its financial and monetary stability over the past years," he added.
His Majesty said that Jordan is currently seeking an investment based economy with a view to have a knowledge based economy.
President of the North Virginia Technology Council Bobbie Kilberg affirmed during the meeting, that members of her council are interested in investing in Jordan, and establishing new partnerships with Jordanian companies for the interest of both sides.
