His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday discussed the implications of the United States’ decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital at meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on the sidelines of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation’s Extraordinary Summit in Istanbul.

At the two meetings, King Abdullah said the international community and the United States must uphold their responsibilities to reach a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that guarantees security and stability, and leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty reaffirmed that leaving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict unresolved will continue to fuel extremism and violence, and undermine regional and global security and stability.

Also at the two meetings, all sides called for intensifying efforts and coordinating positions among Muslim countries to safeguard Jerusalem and preserve its historical identity, as well as Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.

The King asserted that Jerusalem is key to achieving peace, security, and stability in the region, noting its special status for Arabs and Muslims.

His Majesty stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinians to enable them to obtain their legitimate right to establish an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meetings.
