His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received United Nations Secretary General António Guterres for talks on regional developments.

The meeting, held at Basman Palace, touched on regional and international efforts to revive the Middle East peace process by launching serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, based on the two-state solution and international terms of reference.

Talks also addressed the Syrian crisis and the need to find a political solution to the conflict that guarantees its territorial integrity and the unity of its people.

King Abdullah and Guterres also reviewed the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards refugee host countries.

Guterres, who is in the Kingdom for the Arab Summit, pointed to the enormous burden Jordan shoulders by hosting a large number of Syrian refugees, which requires that the global community deliver on aid pledges to the Kingdom.
