King Opens ICT Forum

His Majesty King Abdullah II affirmed that Jordan's efforts to focus on the Information Technology to achieve economic growth stems from "our desire to achieve a better investment for Jordanians' capabilities.

The King who patronized the Jordan Information and Communications Technology Forum said that Jordan which took serious measures to go in the right direction will achieve a distinguished position on the world IT map in 2005.

His Majesty called on international IT companies to seize the moment to help us build capacities and exchange expertise that would help Jordan to make progress in the next several years. " We are determined to make IT succeed here not only for those working in the sector but also to enhance the economy as a whole," the King Added.

The two-day forum which will shed light on the IT and communications industry and review Jordan's accomplishments in the IT field, will be attended by more than 1000 participants representing 200 Arab and foreign companies from 34 countries in Europe, Asia Africa and the United States.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Fawwaz Zu'bi said in a speech that Jordan seeks to be a model in the IT industry, affirming that Jordan, and as part of the REACH initiative which was launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II in 1999, re-examined its strategies in this sector through adopting the policy of change towards the better.

President and Chief Executive of Intel Cooperation Craig Barrett for his part said that Jordan is moving quickly towards the economy that is based on technology through spreading education and improving the infrastructure of the IT and communications.
