Upon His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives, a plane left for Saint Martin in the Caribbean at dawn on Monday to airlift 96 Jordanians home, in the wake of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Irma.

Ambassador Bashir Rawashdeh at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the ministry is in constant communication with the Jordanians on the island to ensure their safety.

The ministry is also coordinating with the island’s French and Dutch authorities, Rawashdeh added.

The plane left for Saint Martin after the required permits had been obtained for it to fly over and land on the island.

Hurricane Irma has destroyed nearly 95 per cent of French Saint Martin in the north. The island’s south is under Dutch jurisdiction.
