King receives Canadian FM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland for a meeting on bilateral ties and developments in the Middle East.

Discussions addressed the importance of expanding cooperation in various fields, and King Abdullah expressed appreciation for the support provided by Canada to enable Jordan to implement a number of development projects.

The meeting also covered the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with His Majesty stressing the need to step up efforts to reach a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, and leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Moreover, discussions covered regional crises and efforts to reach political solutions, as well as regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.

Foreign Minister Freeland affirmed Canada’s keenness to strengthen ties of friendship with Jordan, and to maintain coordination and consultations over various issues of mutual concern.

She also expressed Canada’s appreciation of Jordan’s humanitarian role in hosting Syrian refugees.
