In a letter sent to His Majesty King Abdullah II, US President George W. Bush reiterated his full commitment to achieve comprehensive, just and durable peace in the Middle East.
Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania on Thursday received at Bayt Al-Barakah US Congressman Mark Kirk who presented the message to the King. In his message, Bush said that the announcement of US Secretary of State Colin Powell about the American vision for peace is an expression of his full stand as president of the United States.
President Bush reiterated what he said in his speech in the UN that the solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict lies in the existence of two states: A Palestinian state and an Israeli one living side by side within secure borders, pointing out that this can be achieved through negotiations.
President Bush renewed his call to end the cycle of violence based on the Mitchell and Tenet؟s plans which were accepted by the two sides, urging the Israeli and Palestinian sides to implement them.
He pointed out that US Assistant Secretary of State William Burns and General Anthony Zinni will head for the region in the coming few days to help the two sides to come out of the bottle of the neck in the peace process and try to reach an immediate ceasefire and implement the Mitchell and Tenet؟s plans.
President Bush said that the announcement of the US vision on peace comes as response to the request of His Majesty King Abdullah II and several Arab leaders, urging Arabs to work side by side with the US to achieve this vision, which will lead to a viable independent Palestinian state to the side of Israel which must live with its Arab neighbors within secure and recognized borders.
He valued His Majesty؟s efforts in backing the international campaign to fight terrorism which Jordan has suffered from as the world is suffering from now.
