At the Beqaa Refugee Camp

Speech of His Majesty King Abdullah II

At the Beqaa Refugee Camp

JordanBaqaa
05 October 1999
(Translated from Arabic)

In the Name of God, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate,

For a very long time, I have longed to meet all of my brothers and sisters, members of our family who live here in the camp. You are a part of our one Jordanian large family who have suffered patiently and endured difficult living conditions.

We are all one family, and your concerns are ours. Therefore, we must cooperate and co-ordinate together in order to build a society that is based on justice, equality and national unity, of which we are proud and which we shall always protect and maintain. As always, we will remain supportive of your rights, and the rights of our brothers in the West Bank to establish their independent state on their national soil.

I have instructed the government to establish a hospital in Ein Al Basha to provide services to the people of the Al Beqaa area. I have also issued instructions to allocate one hundred university seats for the students of the camps. And by the will of the Almighty, this number will be doubled in the future to reach 200 seats. Further, a sum of JD 100,000 will be allocated in support of the clubs in camps. Finally, a piece of land will be allotted to establish a health centre in Prince Hassan Camp.

Peace be upon you.
